Non-Exempt StaffIn accordance with Rensselaer policy and Department of Labor guidelines, non-exempt employees who agree to assist Rensselaer during commencement exercises must be compensated for their time as follows:Non-exempt staff must receive overtime pay at a rate of time and a half for hours worked beyond 40 in the work week. The schedule of the non-exempt employee may be adjusted for the week so that the total hours worked does not exceed 40; however, if the actual hours worked for the week exceed 40, time and a half must be paid. Overtime pay and schedule adjustments are the obligation of the home department of the employee.Bi-weekly pay period: 05/11/2024 to 05/24/2024Scenario 1 (No additional salary budget implication to department):Employee works 2 hours at commencement on 05/18/2024; employee work schedule on the following Thursday, 05/23/24 is reduced by 2 hours so that the total hours for the week equal 40.Scenario 2 (Budget implication to department requires time and a half to be paid to employee):Employee works 2 hours at commencement on 05/18/2024 and works full schedule for the period 05/11/24 - 05/24/2024 . Total hours worked in the week equals 42. Budget implication to department requires time and a half to be paid to employee for the 2 hours of overtime worked.
Exempt Staff May receive equivalent time off at a later date with advanced written approval from their immediate supervisor.
